True confessions. Some days I am unsure how or where to begin telling a story when something is occurring that perplexes me because it mashes up so many opinions and individuals’ agendas with a touch of fact. Such is the case with the proposed European law that would effectively force music companies to make every performer and every songwriter, who is connected to a recording or to a song that one day becomes commercially successful, a member of the band—to essentially share in the profits and the benefits. And it would not just be every ‘author and performer’ in the future, it would cover every author and performer in the past as well.
